Making Money on the Web with Google AdSenseI'll give you the bad news first: I'm not going to tell you that you will earn a million dollars this year or that you'll be able to quit your day job after reading this article. Now for the good news... if you own a web site, that web site can earn you money. Even better news is that it's relatively easy to get started earning money right away. Best of all I'm going to tell you what you need and how you can get started and I'm not going to charge you a penny. That's right, the information I'm going to provide is not going to cost you $7.95, it's not going to cost you $19.95, it's not even going to cost you 43 easy payments of $239.99. That's right! I'll show you how you can get started earning money on your site right away for free! Before I explain what's required (and it's extremely easy) let's take a look at how money can be earned on the Web. You can make money on the Web if you:
This article will explore the last option, i.e. advertising for other web sites. More specifically, it will explore using Google AdSense as a means of doing so. Advertising on the Web has gone through some changes. In fact, it's gone through significant changes. When I first began hanging around on the Internet (we had E-mail, FTP and Usenet, but no Web) commerce was a no-no. You could be blackballed back then for trying to sell a used video card. When the Web first hit, commerce/advertising was still pretty much frowned upon. Then someone thought advertising, especially running "banner ads" along the top of someone else's web pages, would be a great way to attract visitors to their own site. And the rest, as they say, is history. When banner advertising first came about, though, you had to own a site that had a fairly large number of page views before an advertising firm would even think of allowing you the privilege of advertising for one of their esteemed clients. I remember getting the emails back from some of the companies... I'm sorry, but we're looking for publishers with X views or more, where X was always slightly higher than the number of views our site was delivering at the time. Of course, back then you could be paid for how many visitors saw the ad. There was no mention of click-throughs or sales leads or any of the other traditional sales methodologies we see on the Web today. Today, the best way to get started publishing ads is with Google AdSense. With AdSense you get paid when someone clicks the ad that you're displaying on your web pages. It's that simple. Your site's visitors don't have to spend money, sign up for anything, give out their credit card number or even give out their e-mail. They won't be assaulted by popups/popunders or any other annoying "click-me" tricks. What they will get is tasteful advertising targeted to your site's content. And best of all, Google AdSense works whether your site gets a lot of traffic, or very little traffic. Of course, more traffic is better... If this article generates enough e-mail on the topic, we'll write something up about generating traffic for your web site. After all, more traffic means more earnings :) To get an idea of what I mean by content-targeted advertising, take a look at the Google ads on this page. They all point to sites about earning money on the Web. Quite a stark contrast to the Google ads on every other web page here at www.grafx-design.com. All of the other ads here are geared towards graphic software tutorials. Yet it was no extra work to place these ads... It was a simple matter of copying & pasting the same ad code as for any other ad on this web site. In other words, Google takes care of placing relevant ads. It couldn't be easier. Google AdSense is extremely easy to set up. You can choose from a wide variety of ads types/formats/colors/sizes so that you can still keep your design intact.
